The Olof Palme Memorial Fund for International Understanding and Common Security was established by Olof Palme’s family and by the Social Democratic Party to honour his memory.
The decisions are made by the Fund’s board, chaired by former Prime Minister Stefan Löfven.
The Fund’s purpose is, through scholarships and grants, to
- give opportunities to young people for international exchange and for studies of peace and disarmament
- support work against racism and xenophobia
- and to foster in other ways work for international understanding and common security
The Olof Palme Prize
An annual Olof Palme Prize is awarded for an outstanding achievement in the spirit of Olof Palme, to be chosen by the Fund’s Board.
The Prize consists of a diploma and 100.000 US dollars.
Nominations for the Olof Palme Prize
The Fund will also work for international understanding in other ways, by actively seeking out and supporting suitable projects in Sweden and elsewhere.
